Kurdish Lesson 1: Meaning and Usage of Letter Aa in Kurmanji

Currently, there are many inaccurate usages of letter Aa and its usage in Kurmanji language due to colonization of Kurdish people, their land and resources by multiple official countries. Below are the three correct usages of letter Aa in Kurmanji.

1. Aa is the first letter of Kurmanji alphabet.  Similar to English, depending on where it is used in a sentence, letter Aa is used either as upper case A or lower case a.  

Aa is  pronounced as Aa

Examples: 

-Azad - Free

 -Anemetî - entrusted

-Agir - Fire 

-Axa -Agha 

2. A second usage of letter Aa is to say the precise location of something. 

Examples:

Min hilneda, lê a wira bû.- I didn't take it but it was right here. 

Ewî digot yê a niha li wir be.- He was saying that he would be here right now. 

3. A third usage is possessive suffix 

Examples

Ewî hat ç'eleka xwe bir mala xwe. - He came and took his cow to his house. 

K'eça wî hat mala me.  - His daughter came to our house. 

Golika çeleka wî gihan ên çelekê diketand. - His Cow's calf was biting off the cow's udder.
